Media Forum of Northern Caucasus: negative stereotypes about Caucasus should be reversed
On November 21, the city of Pyatigorsk opened the First Media Forum of Northern Caucasus "Modern Media about Modern Caucasus". The discussion focuses on how to combat the imposed stereotypes about the Caucasus, and on the issues of dissemination of information about the situation in the regions, as well as of the compliance of publications with the demands of modern readers, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The forum was organized by the Centre of Modern Caucasian Policy (CMCP "Kavkaz") with the support of the office of the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian President to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).
According to the organizers of the forum, it is only possible to reverse the negative stereotypes about the Caucasus, which has formed in recent years by the media that replicate mostly the "hot" information, by publishing materials about the real situation in the region. It is important that these materials were written in the interesting matter, meet the demands of the modern reader and involve new media technologies.
According to Alexander Seravin, a Russian political scientist and a co-founder of the CMCP "Kavkaz", an idea is being discussed of setting up a network of expert clubs – an NGO of intellectuals intended for running an informal debate on contemporary issues of social development and for attracting the expert community to drafting proposals on development of Northern Caucasus.
