Lawyer Musaev: Politkovskaya was killed by power agents, not by my defendants

Anna Politkovskaya was killed by law enforcers, not by suspected natives of Chechnya. This was stated today at the Moscow City Court by the lawyer Murad Musaev.

Currently, five persons are accused of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, the author of articles on Chechnya and Northern Caucasus, committed on October 7, 2006, namely: a Chechen businessman Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, treated by investigators as the organizer of the crime; his three nephews and a former police officer Sergey Khadjikurbanov. On July 24, all of them stated their innocence.

According to the defendants' advocate Murad Musaev, one or more law enforcers committed the murder of the journalist for money. He insists that those in the prisoner's dock did not kill Anna Politkovskaya.

Let us remind you that in March 2013 Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, the former head of the Moscow-operative-search department, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the murder of Anna Politkovskaya. Because he admitted his guilt, his case was heard under a special procedure.
