ICRF: in Volgograd Region policeman knocks down three pedestrians

An employee of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the Volgograd Region committed a road accident, while driving his car, and knocked down two children and their mother. A seven-year-old girl died in place, said the Investigatory Department for the Volgograd Region of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). According to investigators, the policeman was drunk.

The inquiry has established that on July 16 Senior Police Lieutenant Burdenko, an investigator of the Investigatory Division No. 7 of the MIA, while in the state of alcoholic intoxication, ignored the red light and drove into the road intersection, where he rushed into a VAZ-2112 car. As a result of the collision, the policeman's car was thrown to the pedestrian sidewalk, where a young woman with her children happened to be at that moment. Her seven-year-old daughter died in place, while the mother and another daughter 1.5-years-old were hospitalized. Doctors say that their condition is grave.

A criminal case was initiated under Article 264 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic rules by a person in the condition of intoxication, entailing a human death by negligence). The policeman was detained; and putting him in custody is now considered, says the website of the ICRF.

The Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev has sent a commission of his central office to Volgograd and ordered to dismiss a deputy head of the regional Chief Department of the MIA, said the spokesman of the MIA of Russia.

He instructed the head of the above Department to prepare documents on dismissal of the deputy head - Major-General of Justice Martynov, the head of the chief investigatory department, and of all the immediate and direct bosses of the guilty policeman. Besides, the Minister instructed the Department of State Service and Cadre of the MIA to send a special commission to Volgograd to check the personnel, look into the situation and monitor the progress of the service check, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The head of the Chief Department of the Russian MIA for the Volgograd Region dismissed the heads of the district police and the investigatory division of the MIA for Volgograd. The bosses of the MIA Department for Volgograd will also be brought to disciplinary responsibility. Besides, in accordance with the current legislation, the issue will be considered of dismissal of the head of the Chief Regional Investigatory Department, runs the statement posted on the website of the Russian MIA for the Volgograd Region.
