About 100 activists of "Georgian Dream" come to rally demanding freedom of media

Today, activists of the youth movement of the political coalition of billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili "Georgian Dream" held a protest action in front of the building of the National Communication Commission, demanding to ensure freedom of the media. The picket was attended by about 100 persons.

The participants of the protest action have pointed out the problems connected with access to broadcasting of the "9th Channel", the TV Channel, belonging to Bidzina Ivanishvili. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at present, antennas of the "Global TV" TV Channel are being dismantled the antennas of the only satellite TV Company in Georgia, which broadcasted "9th Channel" of Bidzina Ivanishvili. That decision was made by the court on the basis of the claim, filed by the "Rustavi 2" and the "Imedi" TV Channels. Representatives of the "Global TV" TV Channel accused the Georgian authorities of pressure, which started after inclusion of the "9th Channel" in the network of the broadcasting company.

According to Tsotne Zurabiani, the activist of the youth movement of the coalition "Georgian Dream", the decisions made by the National Communication Commission indicate that the Commission is "a designer of Bolshevik decisions of Mikhail Saakashvili," the "Georgia online" reports.

Shota Dzagnidze, the member of the youth organization, has stated that they gathered in front of the Commission's building, since they believe that "the imbalance that exists today in the media must be changed."

On June 19, young activists from the coalition "Georgian Dream" distributed in the streets of the Georgian capital informational flyers, urging people to join the action of car signals in solidarity with the media, scheduled for June 21, the IA "News-Georgia" reports.

"In that manner, the youth wing of the coalition intends to challenge the authorities' decision to disable the signal of Georgian radio broadcasting stations in route taxis," stated a staff member of the press service of the movement.
