In Dagestan, verdict to Sergey Evloev to be pronounced on June 25

The verdict in the case against Sergey Evloev, accused of involvement in an illegal armed formation (IAF), banditry and attack on life of a police officer, is to be pronounced on June 25. Today, Sergey Evloev was released from custody in the courtroom.

Let us remind you that today, the jury of the Supreme Court of Dagestan found Sergey Evloev innocent. Sergey Evloev, the 19-year-old resident of Makhachkala, was detained on July 27, 2011, by officers from the OVD (Interior Division) of the Lenin District of the capital of Dagestan on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons. On April 27, the trial on the case against Sergey Evloev was started with participation of the jury. On June 5, the court listened to testimonies of secret witnesses.

Sergey Evloev was released from custody immediately after the verdict had been pronounced. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Ziyavudin Uvaisov, the lawyer of Sergey Evloev.

The Dagestani Branch of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has emphasized that the NGO treats the jury's verdict as fair. "We have followed the progress of the trial," stated Elena Denisenko, the head of the HRC "Memorial" Branch. According to her, Sergey Evloev sought the assistance of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" in June 2011.

Let us remind you that on May 26, 2011, Gyulnara Rustamova, Co-Chair of the public organization "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy), reported on kidnapping of Sergey Evloev. Gyulnara Rustamova has noted that the problems of Sergey Evloev began with his adoption of Islam. Later, Sergey Evloev appealed to the Commission on adaptation of militants under the President of Dagestan, asking for assistance.
