On November 13, in the course of the referendum, 83.99 per cent of citizens voted to declare the Russian language the second official language in South Ossetia. 16.01 per cent voted against the idea.

"In accordance with the will of the citizens of South Ossetia, the Russian language will be declared the second official language in the republic," the "RBC" quotes Bella Plieva as saying.

According to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, all respondents questioned in the village of Ruk, where the citizens of South Ossetia, living in North Ossetia, were voting, responded positively to the question on the ballot list if they agreed to declare the Russian language the official language of the republic together with the Ossetian language.

A voter George Tedeev, who came from the city of Vladikavkaz, said that he voted "pro", since "we would like to join Russia. We do not want to forget our language, and we studied Russian at school, we speak Russian and we will continue to communicate with Russian citizens."

A pensioner Sozyr Kabisov, who also came to vote from the capital of North Ossetia, said that "the Russian language should be and should be everywhere."

Lery Tedeev voted in the ballot list at the referendum to declare the Russian language the official language, since he "did not see the life without Russia."
