The tractor driver detonated a mine in the Khojavend district.

The tractor driver sustained multiple shrapnel wounds when he detonated a mine in the village of Dyudyukchu in the Khojavend district of Azerbaijan.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, on August 21, a tractor driven by a resident of Sumgayit, Ramal Shirinov, born in 1983, ran over a mine in the village of Dyudyukchu in the Khojavend district in an area where demining work has not yet been completed.

As a result, the tractor driver sustained multiple shrapnel wounds, reported 21 Report.az.

Shirinov was hospitalized in the Fizuli district hospital with injuries to his head, neck, left side of his face, upper limb, and thigh. Doctors assessed his condition as stable, and the tractor driver was discharged for outpatient treatment, reported the APA agency on August 21.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in August, there was an increase in cases of people detonating mines in Azerbaijan. For instance, on August 12, in the village of Gyzylgaya in the Khojavend district, three local residents were blown up by a mine. On August 8, in the same district, during work a tractor detonated a mine, and its driver was unharmed.

It should be noted that analysts interviewed by "Caucasian Knot" previously indicated that the increase in the number of mine incidents in Azerbaijan is related to the expansion of agricultural and restoration work, the increase in the number of returning residents, and the difficulties of demining areas. From 2020 to 2025, about 249 thousand hectares in Azerbaijan were cleared of mines, with 237 thousand mines and other explosive objects discovered.
