Dagestan: resident of Makhachkala disappeared

Location of Shamil Djavatov, a 20-year-old resident of the capital of Dagestan, is unknown to his family. This was asserted by Madina Djavatova, a mother of the disappeared young man.

"Yesterday in the morning he went to work. Two hours later we were visited by two men in civilian clothes. They introduced themselves as officers from the police department of the village of Karamakhi of the Buinaksk District, where we came from. Police officials said they wanted to talk to Shamil and find out where he worked. They asked the phone number of my son, and I gave it them together with mine. They left their phone number. The policemen got into the Niva car and moved toward the centre of Makhachkala," said Madina Djavatova.

According to her, at 2:00 p.m. the youngest daughter Niyar entered a store and saw Shamil returning home, the now familiar Niva stood in some distance away. "My daughter came home, and my son was still not in. We ran into the street, but did not see Shamil or Niva. We tried to call my son but also failed, since then nobody saw him," said the mother of the disappeared.

Madina Djavatova said that she had already appealed to the appropriate law enforcement authorities; however, all authorities stated to have no necessary information. "They told me that they know nothing about the Shamil's fate and that their visit was due to the fact that my son had been registered as a follower of Wahhabism," said the woman.

She stressed that her son was a strictly practicing Muslim, did not drink or smoke, he worked in slag block workshop and was the single wage earner for his mother and two underage sisters.

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan reported that they had no information about the disappearance of Shamil Djavatov.
