Azerbaijan launches new campaign against ban on hijabs in schools

The Centre in Defence of Freedom of Conscience and Religion (DEVAMM) has launched a campaign named "100,000-Strong Appeal to President of Azerbaijan" and aimed to express protest against the ban on schoolgirls to wear hijabs in schools.

Under the new campaign the DEVAMM plans to send at least 100,000 appeals to the head of the state on the issue, the "Vesti.Az" reports.

The Centre has appealed to all the citizens of the country, irrespective of their age, political and religious affiliation, to take part in the campaign.

As stated by Ilgar Ibragimoglu, Chairman of the Centre, the campaign has the aim "not to split but to unite." "Our aim is to demonstrate goodwill and once and forever solve the problem of religious believes," the edition named Salamnews quotes Mr Ibragimoglu as saying.
