Militiamen who stopped fight of natives of Chechnya in Moscow sentenced to 3-5 years of imprisonment

Today, the Tushino Court of Moscow has sentenced four former employees of the OVD (Interior Division) Mitino, found guilty of abuse of office during detention of the participants of the fight in January 2009, to prison terms ranging from three to five years. This was reported by Dmitry Bakharev, advocate of one of the defendants.

Let us remind you that the detainees had addressed the own security service of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA); and in May 2009 a criminal case was initiated in respect of employees of OVD "Mitino" under Articles 286 (abuse of power) and 318 (use of violence against a state official) of the Russian Criminal Code. The four militiamen were arrested; however, later the Moscow City Court quashed the arrest.

Dmitry Bakharev said that former militiamen Ruslan Kayumov, Evgeniy Stepanov and Yuri Uvarov were sentenced to five years in colony each, and Alexei Vinogradov - to three years.

"We'll certainly appeal against this verdict, because, in our opinion, the court did not want to properly study the circumstances of the case and just rewrote the indictment," said Dmitry Bakharev as quoted by the Russian Agency of Legal and Judicial Information (RAPSI).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 24, 2009, four employees of the OVD "Mitino" detained the participants of the brawl that burst out near the restaurant in Baryshikha Street in Moscow. Mansur Aslakhanov, an operative agent of the Criminal Investigation Department of the UVD (Interior Department) of the North-Western District of Moscow and a nephew of Aslambek Aslakhanov, a Senator of the Council of the Federation from the Omsk Region.
