Lithuanian journalist Thomas Chivas demanded from Public prosecutor's office to attach his articles to Egle Kusaite's case

On April, 27, Lithuanian journalist Thomas Chivas appealed to the prosecuting party asking to attach his articles to the case of Egle Kusaite accused of terrorism equally with the telephone talks of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko and human rights activist Oksana Chelysheva submitted by Public prosecutor's office as one of the evidences of Egle Kusaite's pressure upon the investigation. 

According to the journalist, he had sent to Prosecutor General of Lithuania Justas Lauchus his article with a public appeal to attach all his articles on the topic to the case as "evidences of a pressure upon the investigation". "As I have been so much "offended" that my name is absent in the hard copies of Egle Kusaite's telephone talks with Arkady Babchenko and Oksana Chelysheva then let them attach my journalist's articles to the case", Thomas Chivas said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. 

According to Thomas Chivas, he had made a public statement in order to show the whole absurdity of Egle Kusaite's case. "I wished to unmask the extent of ignoring human rights and encourage my colleagues and other citizens not to be afraid. People in Lithuania, no matter how strange it sounds, are rather intimidated when the situation concerns their controversy with the state. There is often nobody to stand up for each particular person", the journalist said. 

He also reported that his appeal to Prosecutor General of Lithuania Lauchus was published by one of the national weeklies "Lietuvos zinios" and one of the major web-portals of the country "Balsas.lt". "However, there has yet been no reply from Prosecutor General", Thomas Chivas added. 

Chivas said that if his articles and telephone talks were still attached to the case it would "spoil the picture" and "the accusations of pressure upon the court against Kusaite by means of her contacts with the Russians will become faded".

According to the journalist, the trial on April, 26, passed off behind closed doors and Egle was not brought there from prison. "We are very much concerned about this as well as the fact that today I failed to get Egle's parents on the phone to find out what was happening and why Enge was not present at the trial", Thomas Chivas said. 

Egle Kusaite's supporters are afraid of the pressure she may undergo in prison, they are also concerned about the state of her health, Vitautas Mezhrikaitis, journalist and human rights activist of non-governmental association "Save all the children of Chechnya", said. "When she was first released they believed that she would keep silence. I think they confined her in prison again in order to limit her contacts with journalists, human rights activists and lawyers", the human rights activist considers. 

There are no comments from the prosecuting party yet on the progress of the trial and Thomas Chivas' demands of attaching his articles to Egle Kusaite's case.
