US and UK Embassies urge their citizens in Azerbaijan to take care

On January 31, the Embassies of the United States and Great Britain in Baku made appeals to citizens of their countries in Azerbaijan asking them to be vigilant in view of possible threat of attacks on them.

The US Embassy's message runs "about potential threats of attacks on American interests and for other purposes" in Azerbaijan. A similar warning to British citizens was made by the UK Embassy.

The Embassies refuse to specify the details of the threat.

Making his comment on these statements, Orkhan Mansurzade, spokesman of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), assured that law enforcement bodies take all the necessary steps to ensure the safety of local and foreign citizens, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"The safety of the entire diplomatic corps, and all the objects of national importance in the country are reliably protected by the police," said Mansurzade.
Apart from the Embassies, most US and British citizens work for the "BP-Azerbaijan" Oil Company. They were informed about the possible threat.

"The relevant briefing was held not only with the citizens of these countries but also with other foreign employees of the Company," said Eldar Nurizade, head of security of this company, which employs about 200 foreign nationals.
