Public activists demand sooner adoption of law on status of terror act victims

After the terror act in Domodedovo, activists of Russian public organizations, which unite the people who suffered from terror activities, keep reminding that the state resorts only to payment of compensations, but is not responsible for the further fate of the victims, who still need medical care and rehabilitation years after the terror acts, where they suffered.

"The absence of the status of a 'terror act victim' prevents from receiving the adequate health care and social protection. Two years ago, representatives of organizations of victims of terror acts in Russia drafted the law 'On social protection of citizens affected by terror acts'," runs the statement presented by the All-Russian public organization of victims of terror acts named "Voice of Beslan".

The statement runs that the bill touches in detail the issues of social and medical services to citizens affected by terrorism, as well as the issues of pensions, military service, etc. The law takes into account the negative experience, accumulated by victims of terror acts in Russia, who faced the problems, which cannot be resolved within the existing Russian legislation."

Among the problems faced by victims of terror acts, they note "the absence of any compensations to parents of lost children", "lack of health care and social assistance to victims few years after the act (after one-time compensation is spent, and there are no philanthropists)", "lack of control by public services of the health of victims and their social situation."

The organizations, which unite victims of terror acts in Russia, demand prompt adoption of this law.

The document was signed by the All-Russian Public Organization "Voice of Beslan", the "Nord-Ost" Regional Public Organization for Promoting Defence of Terror Act Victims, and the Regional Public Organization "Volga-Don".
