Today, Moscow to award Sakharov Prize in journalism

Today, the Central House of Journalists in Nikitskiy Boulevard in Moscow will host the awarding ceremony of Andrei Sakharov Prize "For Journalism as a Deed". The nominees are about a hundred journalists from various regions of Russia, including the Caucasus.

Boris Timoshenko, head of the monitoring service of the Glasnost Defence Foundation, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that participants from the Caucasus are fewer and fewer - apparently, there are fewer editions capable to publish material worth to be nominated for the award "For Journalism as a Deed".

The finalists of the 2010 contest are: Dayan Shakirov (Chelyabinsk), the newspaper "Chelyabinsk Worker" (posthumously); Vladimir Voronov (Moscow), the newspaper "Top Secret"; Pavel Gutiontov (Moscow), the newspaper "Business Tuesday"; Dmitri Florin (Moscow) , the website "New Focus", Yuri Tutov (Moscow), the magazine "Index/Dossier on Censorship"; Andrei Piontkovskiy (Moscow), the Internet edition "Grani.Ru"; Igor Tsagoev (Nalchik), the newspaper "Northern Caucasus"; Vasily Avchenko (Vladivostok), the "Novaya Gazeta"; Izolda Drobina (Ekaterinburg), the "Novaya Gazeta"; Irina Kizilova (Perm), the newspaper "Permskie Novosti"; Marina Zavadskaya (Vladivostok), the newspaper Arsenievskie Vesti"; Natalya Ostrovskaya (Vladivostok) , the "Komsomolskaya Pravda"; Georgiy Borodyanskiy (Omsk), the "Novaya Gazeta"; Olga Bobrova (Moscow), the "Novaya Gazeta", Boris Vishnevskiy (St Petersburg), the "Novaya Gazeta"; Irina Gafarova and Roman Prytkov (Voronezh), the newspaper "Moyo!".

Special diplomas of the Jury will be awarded to Georgi Ramazashvili (Moscow/Tbilisi) and the magazine "Index/Dossier on Censorship" - for his fight against restrictions on access to archives; the website of the Publishing House "Altapress" (Barnaul) - for the action "Altaygate"; the Internet version of the newspaper "Moyo!" (Voronezh) - for covering summer fires; and Dayan Shakirov (Chelyabinsk), the newspaper "Chelyabinsk Worker" (posthumously).
