Resident of Kizilyurt District disappeared in Dagestan

Yesterday, on December 8, in the evening, Zaur Alibekov, a resident of the village of Sultanyangiyurt, Kizilyurt District of Dagestan, disappeared without any traces. This was reported by his wife, Gulnara Alibekova. She believes that local law enforcement officers may have to do with the incident.

She noted that during the whole day her husband was shadowed; and then Zaur disappeared.

"Zaur was repeatedly summoned to the Kizilyurt ROVD for questioning; local militiamen explained to him that he was registered there as a Wahhabi, although he never had any relations with Wahhabis, extremists and militants," said Gulnara.

According to her story, Zaur is an ordinary Muslim. "Local militiamen didn't like it; wherever whatever happened, they came to our house to make searches, even though my husband is without his left leg: he's disabled from childhood and cannot run active lifestyle," said the woman.

She said that she had already filed applications to the prosecutor's office and the MIA of Dagestan, to other bodies asking to help to find her husband and punish his kidnappers.

Vyacheslav Gasanov, head of the press service of the Dagestani MIA told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he knew nothing about Alibekov's disappearance; he also asserted that the militia structures do not account people by their affiliation to this or that religious ideology.

Magomedrasul Aliev, a resident of Kaspiisk, disagrees with him: "I know dozens of cases, when people are taken on the account just because they go to a mosque, not-controlled by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Dagestan; or because they are not Tariqas."

Nadira Isaeva, editor-in-chief of the local weekly "Chernovik", believes that the continued kidnappings may still further destabilize the situation in Dagestan.

Abbas Kebedov, a member of the commission for assisting militants to adapt to peaceful life, said: "Our commission includes all the heads of power agencies. They are either themselves involved in kidnappings, or their subordinates do it without their knowledge - in any case, they discredit the local authorities."
