Dagestani MIA to start new phase of "Arms" Operation

On December 12, a new Operation "Arms" with the aim to persuade the population to voluntarily surrender weapons and ammunition will start in the republic. This is the third such operation, but this time no monetary compensation will be paid out for the surrendered armaments.

"People who bring firearms move different explanations; mostly, that they had found arms somewhere, or bought them back in 1999 for self-defence," Manap Abdulmadzhidov, head of the division for licenses and permits of the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), explained today at a press conference.

According to law enforcement bodies, today the population of Dagestan keeps a huge amount of arms and ammunition. Everyone who wants to surrender them voluntarily may remain anonymous. Later, all the gathered weapons will then be liquidated in the presence of a special commission, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.
