The Parliament of Georgia will adopt the new Constitution before October, 15

The Parliament of Georgia is going to pass a new edition of the Constitution without waiting for final recommendations of the Venice Commission which will take place before October, 15, Michail Machavariani, Vice-speaker of the Parliament declared on October, 11.

"It should be taken into consideration that all this time we have been actively collaborating with the Venice Commission and familiarized it with the law in draft passed in the second reading, during our visit to Strasbourg", Machavariani said at the session of the Parliament Bureau.

Venice Commission has formerly published on its web-site an offer to the Georgian Parliament to wait for its opinion letter on the law in draft of the new Constitution of the country, "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

"In spite of the fact that a number of preliminary recommendations offered by the Commission's speakers during preparatory work at the project of the Constitution have been taken into consideration by Georgian authorities, the main task for the Parliament of Georgia for future efficient collaboration is to wait for the final conclusion and take it into consideration before passing conclusive constitutional amendments", the statement runs.

During the session of the Parliament Bureau deputy Jhondi Bagaturia also demanded putting off the final adoption of the Georgian Constitution until promulgation of concluding recommendations of Venice Commission.

The Parliament has been discussing the draft of the new Constitution for five months. The draft is expected to be passed in the third, final reading today, on October, 12, "Echo of Moscow" reports.

Adoption of the new Constitution presupposes amendments to 160 laws. The draft includes an increase of the Parliament's role and cutting down part of the President's rights.
