Oppositional electoral block "Karabakh" created in Azerbaijan

On August 25, two oppositional parties of Azerbaijan – "Umid" (Hope) and the Democratic Party – declared creation of electoral block named "Karabakh" with the aim to jointly run for the parliamentary elections, forthcoming on November 7.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the leaders of these parties – Igbal Agazade and Sardar Dzhalaloglu – have stated that they had coordinated their united candidates already in 91 out of 125 constituencies. According to Mr Dzhalaloglu, consultations continue in 20 constituencies. He believes that creation of the block will allow "mobilizing resources of their parties and consolidating the protest electorate."

As to the name of the block, according to the leader of the "Umid", it was chosen "with the aim to concentrate the public attention on the topicality of the Karabakh problem." "Besides, we state by the very name of the block that the Karabakh problem is our utmost priority," said Mr Agazade.
