Bread rises in price in Georgia

The retail price for bread has gone up by 10 tetris (5.5 cents). The producers assert that the reason is in the embargo on wheat exports introduced by Russia.
According to Malkhaz Dolidze, director of bakery No. 4, the bread price growth was caused by rise of flour price, the "InterPressNews" reports.

Under the statement of Shakro Bakuradze, director general of the Limited Liability Company (LLC) "Ipkli", when the price for a bag of flour goes up by 15 laris, accordingly, the retail price for a loaf of bread will go up by 15 tetris.

"This has not happened with bread yet; however, if the price for flour will go up by at least 1-2 laris more, we'll be just forced to raise the price for bread by 5 tetris more," he said.

In his turn, Bakur Kvezereli, Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, has stated that the country has enough wheat in stock not to arouse deficit and panic in the home market, the IA "News-Georgia" reports.

During a year Georgia consumes 800,000 tons of wheat, but only 15 percent is grown locally, while 95 percent of imported wheat comes from Russia, the rest - from Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
