Supreme Court of Azerbaijan upholds verdicts to young bloggers

Today, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has rejected the cassation complaint lodged by young bloggers Emin Milli and Adnan Gadjizade, convicted to 2.5 and 2 years of imprisonment on charges of hooliganism and causing bodily injuries.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that the bloggers' advocates have stated at the trial at the Supreme Court that there were no crime attributes in their clients' actions and - consequently - they should be released.

Isakhan Ashurov, Gadjizade's advocate, has stated that the young men had been arrested and convicted for their active public work and political nonconformist expressed in the Internet.

In his turn, the state accuser Gusein Mekhbalyev insisted that the cassation complaint was groundless and accused the lawyers "of politicizing the case."

After a short break, the court chaired by Ali Seifaliev announced the decision: the cassation complaint was rejected and all the previous decisions were upheld.
