Explosion in central Pyatigorsk injures 30 persons

Today at 4:15 p.m. Moscow time in the centre of the resort city of Pyatigorsk, Stavropol Territory, a car stuffed with explosive was blown up. 30 persons were injured; three of them are in resuscitation, their condition is grave.

The blown-up car was completely destroyed; however, operative agents managed to identify its model - VAZ-2106. According to eyewitnesses, its splinters scattered far enough. According to local law enforcers, the power of the bomb could make up to 30 kilos in trotyl equivalent.

The blast wave broke windows in adjacent houses and damaged many cars parked nearby. A tram car was also damaged; one of summer cafes was ruined, another one and a shoe shop also suffered a lot.

Kirov Avenue is a favourite leisure area of local residents and visitors of the resort city. Plenty of shops and summer cafes are located here, which work till late in the evening. Less than two tram stops away from the epicentre there is a sanatorium; and nearby - the building of the Pyatigorsk Central Post Office.

In the context of the terror act, strengthened security measures were introduced in the whole territory of the Stavropol Territory.
