Five persons lost in road accidents in Grozny for a week, 60 - all over Chechnya this year

A huge road accident with casualties happened on July 7 in the Lenin District of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. An employee of the MIA (Ministry of Internal Affairs) is among the casualties. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the MIA that in several recent road accidents in the republic's highways killed two more persons, including a two-month-old baby, and wounded at least seven more.

"Yesterday in the morning two Zhiguli cars ran into each other killing three persons. The road accident happened in the Lenin District of the city. One of the cars was driven by a law enforcer, an operative militia worker. He and the driver and passenger of the other car died in place from their received traumas. Now, the guilt of the actors and circumstance of the accident are being established," said a militia officer.

He also said that it was far from being the first major road accident that happened in Chechnya this week. Thus, on July 5, in the Shelkovskoi District of the republic, at a collision of GAZ-3302 and VAZ-21074 cars, a young woman received burns, and her two-month-old daughter was lost.

On that very day, in the Federal Highway "Kavkaz", in the Grozny District, at collision of four automobiles (a Kamaz truck and three Zhigulis), a driver of one of the passenger cars was lost, and another victim of the road accident was heavily wounded.

In the evening on July 7, in the highway Grozny-Argun, at a collision of a foreign-made car with a Kamaz truck two persons suffered, while on July 6 three passengers were wounded in the Nadterechny District of the republic as a result of collision of two cars.

Last week President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov once again demanded from law enforcers to strengthen their control over the situation in roads of the republic, having given special attention to drivers of Gazel and Kamaz trucks. This was reported by the press service of the President and Government of Chechnya.

He also demanded to set stationary militia posts in those places, where accidents are most frequent. Earlier Ramzan Kadyrov spoke in favour of lifelong deprivation of driving licences for the drivers, who happen to be at the steering wheel in the state of intoxication.

According to the official data, from the start of the year the territory of the republic saw over 100 road accidents, where about 60 persons were lost. During the same period, law enforcers detained over 1800 drunk drivers.
