Action demanding release of detained Orthodox radicals held in Georgia

A number of youth organizations, which held their protest action on June 8 in Tbilisi under the motto "I'm also Orthodox - arrest me", demanded to release the detained members of the "National Orthodox Movement".

Let us remind you that on May 10 the Tbilisi City Court ruled to punish seven participants of the fight that burst out at the "Kavkasiya" TV Company with two months of preliminary custody, having found them guilty under two articles: "hindering journalists in their professional work" and "hooliganism".

Activists of youth organizations of the Conservative and Labour Parties and "Freedom for Victory", Movement "Tsin" (Forward) and "Solidarity with Illegal Prisoners" organized a march from the territory adjacent to "Rustaveli" metro station to the building of the "Kavkasiya" TV Company. The protesters initially wanted in the course of the march to block the Rustaveli Avenue and then - to walk along the carriageway; however, patrol policemen did not allow that.

According to Zuki Chachanidze, chair of the youth movement "Tsin", protest actions will continue in the streets of Tbilisi until the defendants are not released.

According to his story, one of the demands is to ban the Soros-funded "Freedom Institute". Besides, in the opinion of the organizers of the action, if the "Kavkasiya" had not taken part in that incident, it should allow the youth organizations, which support the "National Orthodox Movement", to perform live on air, the "Georgia-Online" Agency reports.

Let us remind you that on May 7 the TV Company held television debates on the book of the young author Erekle Deisadze "Secret Meeting". In the course of the debates, the author of the book demonstratively left the room; however, in the street, as media reported, he was beaten, together with his friend, by Orthodox radicals. Then, the crowd rushed into the TV studio and provoked a fight there, which turned into a pogrom.
