Rally in Dagestan demands to speed up search of missing person

Today, another rally was held in the city of Kizlyar, where demands to the authorities were voiced out to speed up the search of Ahmednabi Nazhmudinov, a native of Cherniayeva village, Kizlyar District of Dagestan, who disappeared last week.

The protest action was about 600 strong. It lasted for about two hours; people dispersed only after they were promised that on the following day - June 8 - a meeting will take place in the building of the district administration with participation of all the interested persons, including militia bosses.

Magomed Magomedov, one of the protesters, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the incident happened on May 30. "Ahmednabi's wedding was appointed on that day. He went out in the evening on some business and was absent for a long time; his relatives gave the alarm. They searched the vicinities of the village and made calls to Ahmednabi's relatives and friends, but nobody knew where he was," said the source.

According to his story, in the morning on May 31, Ahmednabi's relatives addressed the respective instances, submitted their complaints to militia, prosecutor's office and local administration. "However, no measures have been taken so far," said Magomedov.

He does not exclude that Nazhmudinov could be kidnapped by power agents. "Two years ago Ahmednabi's brother disappeared. There were rumours that he joined militants. After that, Ahmednabi was repeatedly called to the militia and asked about his brother; but Ahmednabi has no contacts with his brother," said the source.

Mr Magomedov has added that the Nazhmudinov family has eight persons; none of them works; they are all engaged in cattle breeding and are known as strict Islam followers. He has also stated that if officials fail to address the problem seriously, there would be new protest actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the on duty unit of the Kizlyar ROVD (District Interior Division) that they have no information about disappearance of Ahmednabi Nazhmudinov.
