Supposed suicide-bomber killed in Grozny not identified yet

Law enforcement bodies of Chechnya try to identify the young man, who was killed yesterday, on May 31, in the Oktiabrskiy District of Grozny and who, as power agents believe, was going to commit a self-suicidal act of terrorism. The information about liquidation of the failed suicide-bomber gives rise to doubts among local human rights activists.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a source in law enforcement bodies of Chechnya that the information about a prepared terror act in Grozny was received by power agents by their operative channels. "The bandit was detected in the doorway of a multi-storeyed house in Khankalskaya Street in the Oktiabrskiy District of Grozny and shot dead at rendering armed resistance. Apart from firearms, a powerful explosive device was fixed to his belt," said the source.

He also said that apart from law enforcers the participants of the operation aimed to search the terrorist were servicemen of the "Sever" (North) special battalion of Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. As reported earlier, President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov reported himself about liquidation in Grozny of potential suicide-bomber and prevention of a large terror act.

"The news about another liquidated militant, moreover, about a suicide-bomber, who had allegedly planned to commit a resonant terror act in Grozny, arouses my serious doubts," said an activist of a local human rights organization.

"It is reported that information had arrived by operative channels that a certain terrorist was going to organize a huge terror act in Grozny. This person is immediately found and shot dead, but his name is unknown to the militia and special agencies for some reason. Secondly, the suspected terrorist-suicide-bomber, when encircled by a dense ring of agents, was just shooting back and didn't try to trigger his 'shahid belt'. I think, a real suicide-bomber would act differently," said the activist.

Other circumstances of the incident are also doubtful. "It's not indicated what particular firearm the terrorist used to fire back. Another detail is absolutely unclear. There was a skirmish, but nobody suffered among power agents," said the human rights activist who doubts that militants are so badly trained to shoot.

Another activist of a local NGO agrees with him. "Alexander Khloponin, Plenipotentiary in the NCFD (North-Caucasian Federal District), could hardly warn about stronger security in the region in the context of today's International Children's Day, and here you are - a certain terrorist-suicide-bomber is liquidated," he said.
