In Tbilisi, police forbids lawyers to put their tent at the Parliament

In Tbilisi, the police did not allow the lawyers holding a rally to put their tent in front of the building of the Parliament. As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent from the place of events, policemen arrived in several minutes after the lawyers started installing their tent and stopped their activities.

"In spite of the fact that we acquainted policemen with the Mayoralty's permit to set up a tent at the distance of 20 meters from the building of the Parliament, they didn't allow us to do it. They have no explanations of their ban. On Monday, May 17, we plan to address the Chief Prosecutor's Office of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia with a demand to initiate a criminal case on the fact of dispersal of our rally," said lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze, organizer of the protest action.

According to his version, also after May 16 lawyers plan to add political demands, in particular, extraordinary parliamentary elections, to their already put forward demands to amend the Electoral Code.

Georgian lawyers are holding their rally in Tbilisi for the fourth day in a row. The action is held by up to ten person; they come in the morning to the building of the country's supreme legislative body and go home late at night. The lawyers demand to amend the electoral legislation towards, in their opinion, fairer elections. They want to hold till May 30 - the day, when the country will elect its local governments.
