Supposed financial emissary of "Imarat Kavkaz" detained in North Ossetia

Yesterday, on May 5, Victor Grin, Deputy General Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, signed the bill of particulars against Evgeniy Petrov, who, according to the version of the investigation, raised funds in Kazakhstan and Ukraine for militants of "Imarat Kavkaz" in Northern Caucasus. The case was sent to the Supreme Court of North Ossetia.

Evgeniy Petrov was detained by law enforcers of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. He rendered no resistance, although he had firearms on him. At detention Petrov had about 1.5 million roubles and 20,000 US dollars on him, and a Russian passport to another name.

Law enforcement bodies report no other details of detention, explaining it by the fact that Petrov could have accomplices in the republic, which should still be detected.

Under the versions of the investigation, the money confiscated from Petrov was intended for illegal armed formations of the "Imarat Kavkaz". He raised money in the territory of Ukraine and Kazakhstan under personal order of the leader of the organization Dokku Umarov.

Under operative data, in spite of the fact that only the sum confiscated from Petrov at detention figured in the criminal case, the real volume of the funds raised by Petrov was much higher. The confiscated money was intended, presumably, only for one on militants groupings controlled by Umarov, as the "Kommersant" writes with reference to a source in power agencies of North Ossetia.

The materials of the criminal case have been sent to the Supreme Court of North Ossetia for consideration on the merits, as reported by the "Regions.ru".

The position of the defence was not announced yet.
