Nagorno-Karabakh stops registering candidates for MPs

April 18 in Nagorno-Karabakh was the deadline for registering candidates for members of the local Parliament of the 5th convocation; the elections will take place on May 23.

According to Sergey Nasibyan, Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Nagorno-Karabakh, all the four parties - Free Homeland, Democratic Party of Artsakh, Communist Party of Karabakh and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) "Dashnaktsutyun" - were registered.

"On April 19, we also finished registering candidates under the majority system. Out of 46 candidates, earlier two persons announced their self-rejection. The remaining 44 candidates were registered and started their pre-election campaigns," said the CEC Chairman.

The pre-election campaign will last from April 19 till midnight of May 21.

According to the CEC Secretary Rai Nazaryan, over 50 preliminary applications were submitted from international organizations willing to send their observers to the elections, and over 30 - from international mass media.
