Moscow authorities define the place for "Memorial of Glory" blown up in Kutaisi

The re-erected "Memorial of Glory", which was blown up in Kutaisi, Georgia, will be located behind the building of the museum of the Great Patriotic War on the Poklonnaya Mount.

Russian Premier Vladimir Putin offered to recreate the demolished memorial in Russian capital. He expressed confidence that Russian citizens will raise money to build a monument in Moscow in memory of the Georgians who perished in the war against Nazi Germany. Later, the pro-Kremlin youth movement "Nashi" announced the start of fundraising on re-erection of the monument.

According to a source in the city administration, now the Moscow Department of Culture drafts a respective document on placing the monument in the area of Soldiers' Avenue.

The "Gazeta.Ru" reports that Liudmila Shvetsova, First Mayor Deputy in the Government of Moscow, was appointed to respond for project preparation and implementation.

On February 24, Sergey Mironov, Speaker of Council of Federation, expressed his confidence, when touching on demolition of the memorial in Kutaisi, that leaders of the countries, where WWII monuments are destroyed, will not be forgiven by descendants, the "Argumenty i Facty" writes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili has already named December 19, 2009, the day when the monument was blown up, one of his hardest days and expressed his regret that the issue was politicized. The President has noted that he decided to dismiss Governor of Imereti as the person in charge of everything that happens there.
