Over 90 percent of Armenian migrants in Turkey are women

The overwhelming majority of Armenian migrants (96 percent), working today in Turkey, are women, most of them engaged in household work. This is the outcome of the study performed by the Foundation "Cooperation Eurasia".

According to the Foundation, and the "Centre of Global Political Trends" at the Istanbul Institute of Culture, half of illegal Armenian migrants had come to Turkey from the Shirak Region after the Spitak earthquake of 1988.

96 percent of illegal migrants from Armenia are women, and 4 percent, accordingly, are men. Over 70 percent of women are employed in domestic labour, 18 percent work as sitters, others - in trade. Men are mainly employed in shoe-making or jewellery. Migrants from Armenia earn from 500 to 1000 US dollars per month. The overwhelming majority of migrants, 96 percent, according to the studies, dream of returning home, the edition named "Tert.am" reports.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported, with reference to the Yerevan-based representative office of "Eurasia" Foundation that at the moment some 12-15 thousand Armenians live in Turkey.
