British MPs recognize genocide of Armenians

The majority of the members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom have voted for recognition of the fact of genocide against Armenians and Assyrians in the territory of the Ottoman Turkey.

Out of 495 eligible members of the House of Commons 254 MPs supported the resolution on genocide. Only 495 MPs out of the total count of 646 are eligible to express their viewpoints on the issue, since the remaining 151 are either members of the government or other functionaries and have no right to sign this sort of documents, as the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The document of the British Parliament entitled "Motion No. 287", runs: "This House… condemns unreservedly denial and denigration of the memory of the Holocaust, as well as of the 1915 'genocide' of Armenians and Assyrians in Turkey, and the politics of hatred and division which led to these events… and calls on hon. Members to respect Holocaust Memorial Day and to ensure that the Holocaust, the 1915 Genocide and modern atrocities such as the 1988 Anfal Genocide are never forgotten." This is written by the "Euvelle de Armeni" magazine of the Armenian Diaspora in France.

In the end of last year, most of the MPs from Scotland and Northern Ireland recognized the genocide of Armenians, following their colleagues from Wales who did it back in 2007.
