Karachai-Circassia: militia major accused of beating detainee to death

A criminal case has been opened in Karachai-Circassia against the militia major on the fact of beating a detainee, who subsequently died.

Let us note here that the "Caucasian Knot" wrote about a similar case in the end of November 2009, when Anver Ibragimov, a militia capital from the capital of Kalmykia, beat two natives of Abkhazia, after which one of them died.

"The investigation has initiated a criminal case against an operative on duty agent of the OVD (Interior Division) of the Ust-Dzhegut District - militia major, born in 1968, suspected of beating on June 15, 2009, when at service, a detainee, born in 1958, for disobedience to militiamen," a source in law enforcement bodies of the republic reports.

The detainee subsequently died, as inspectors believe, from the received traumas. The criminal case was opened under the article of "excess of official powers", which assumes imprisonment for the term of up to 10 years, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

Let us remind you that in early February a criminal case was opened against militiamen of a PPS (Patrol-and-Post Service) squadron in Volgograd, also suspected of beating detainees.

On January 13, in the Stavropol Territory two militiamen beat a pensioner for refusal to go to the detoxification centre.

On November 17, 2009, in the Krasnodar Territory, the former head of the criminal search division of the ROVD and an employee there were sentenced to three years of imprisonment each. According to the inquiry, in December 2008, the convicts severely beat a man.
