Residents of Ingushetia were not informed about gas main accident

So far, the accident at the gas main in Ingushetia was not recognized to be a terror act; but if it will be, the result may be in growth of mistrust to the authorities, since the population is already criticizing the republic's leadership. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about by Kaloy Akhilgov, press secretary of the Ingush President; while in the opinion of Vakha Chapanov, head of the Ingush news agency "Maximum", the authorities have failed to properly inform the population about the accident.

"Nazran, Magas and Nazran District, except for villages Kantyshevo and Dalakovo, gas supply is restored," Mr Akhilgov said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He said that last night, after the explosion, which left more than one hundred thousand persons without gas has, many telephone calls from arrived from residents of the republic. "People were surprised that nobody reacted and asked why they couldn't get even to the hotline of the Ministry for Emergencies. Accordingly, such events give rise to consequences, and people start losing trust in the authorities. It is the overall aim of those who commit these acts. Because hardly they set an aim to freeze people," Kaloy Akhilgov believes.

Vakha Chapanov, head of the Ingush news agency "Maximum", said that the accident was quickly liquidated and gas supplies were resumed. Everything was getting back to normal life.

"So far, it is known that according to the official version the accident was caused by a gas pressure loss," he said.

"One should keep in mind that it's winter now, and gas is vitally important. This week, we have rather strong frosts for Ingushetia, for our southern climate - below 10 degrees Centigrade - it's essential. Therefore, a 2-3-hour supply break is painful," Mr Chapanov continued.

According to his story, all the fire services of the republic were in the place of the accident, same as the republic's leaders. In his opinion, in spite of anything, there always will be people dissatisfied with the actions of the authorities, although the latter this time indeed failed to properly inform the population.

As he said, there was no information about the gas main accident and about the start of its liquidation either on TV or radio.
