Volgograd: case of former FSB agent sent to court

In the Volgograd Region, inspectors have finalized the case of a group of racketeers, which was headed by a high-ranking officer of the Federal Security Bureau (FSB). Their victims were local businessmen, who were forced to pay for the right to peacefully run their businesses.

According to the investigation, in May 2005 Pyotr Samarskiy, a former head of the division for defending the constitutional order and fighting terrorism of the Department of the FSB for the Volgograd Region, demanded remuneration from director general of one of Volgograd enterprises for assistance in removing responsibility on the criminal case against him investigated by the investigatory department of the local FSB. The FSB agent also offered a future "shelter" of the commercial activity of the enterprise, as reported by the "Interfax".

In May 2009, Pyotr Samarskiy was detained in Moscow, but managed to escape when he was convoyed to Volgograd; now he is in the federal search, as reported by the "Vysota-102" Agency.
