Parliament of Karachai-Circassia failed to elect Derev to be Senator for the fourth time

The National Assembly (NA) of Karachai-Circassia has for the fourth time rejected the candidature of Vyacheslav Derev, who was nominated by leaders of the "Edinaya Rossiya" Party to the position of representative of the NA at the Russian Council of Federation.

Already on October 14, before registration of the participants of the session, a group of thirty deputies made a statement that "they were offended by the fact that the candidature of Vyacheslav Derev is for the fourth time brought to voting."

"We are indignant that the President of the republic, speaker of the parliament and visitors from Moscow, who come from time to time to the republic, were holding their backstage talks with MPs in order to drive Derev into senator. We don't find it possible to humiliate ourselves by discussing this nominee for the fourth time," the deputies said.

The "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" writes that in protest against election of Derev a senator almost half of the MPs left the sitting hall.

Zurab Dokshokov, speaker of the National Assembly, asked the remaining MPs to get registered. It appeared that only 35 persons remained in the hall, which is not enough for voting. President of Karachai-Circassia Boris Ebzeev, who was present at the session, treated such behaviour as sabotage, as the "Yuga.Ru" writes.
