The information about possible liquidation of Doku Umarov, leader of Caucasian militants, who declared, in autumn 2007, creation of Imarate Kavkaz in the territory of Northern Caucasus and proclaimed himself to be Amir of Caucasian mujahads, was not officially confirmed yet. Moreover, assumptions now appear that he was only wounded.

Brothers Isa and Musa of Sulim Yamadaev, former commander of the "Vostok" special battalion, will be brought by force, under respective court statements, to the city of Gudermes for interrogation under the case about disappearance in 2004 of soldier Alikhan Khaladov.

This is the topic of the memorandum addressed by the independent human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.

The Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) of the Russian Federation has stated that involvement of former Russian Army colonel Yuri Budanov in disappearances of residents of Chechnya in 2000 was not confirmed. Budanov has evidenced that he could not physically be present at the block-post, where a group of local residents had disappeared without any traces.

In Chechnya, under decision of the head of the local Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), all the fire-fighting forces of Grozny are now involved in searching a boy of 7, who, probably, got drowned in Sunzha River on June 4, and another boy of 5, who got drowned on May 30. This was reported by Timur Taisumov, official representative of Russian MfE for Chechnya.

Yuri Budanov, who served his term for murdering a Chechen girl, and released in the end of 2008, was interrogated as a suspect under a new criminal case. The ex-colonel is suspected of involvement to murdering three residents of Chechnya.

So far, there is no reliable data confirming the death of Doku Umarov, leader of Chechen separatists, who declared himself in 2007 to be the commander of Caucasian mujahads. However, observers do not exclude that the authorities plan to announce Umarov's liquidation by the forthcoming holidays. According to Aslambek Apaev, an expert of the Moscow Helsinki Group for Northern Caucasus, if Umarov was really killed, the fact will be disclosed only by June 12, the Day of Russia.

Law enforcers of Chechnya are now searching the unknown person who shot dead, last Saturday, on June 6, in Argun, Musost Khutiev, assistant for power agencies of the First Vice-Premier of the Government of Chechnya and former Brigade General of Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Militants' revenge is viewed by inspectors as the main versions of the murder.

Starting June 7, the "Grozny" Chechen State Television and Radio Company (ChSTRC) broadcasts an English-language new programme "View from within by Crystall Callahan" run by a Canadian model. It is planned that the programme will appear once a week, every Sunday.

Today, the Moscow City Court has cancelled the decision to arrest militiamen from the OVD (Interior Department) "Mitino", accused by four natives of Chechnya of beating them in a Moscow cafe. The Court has sent the arrest petition submitted by the investigation to the Tushino District Court for re-consideration.

Ismail Khamkhoev, 39, kidnapped on April 28 by unidentified persons in Ordzhonikidzevskaya village of Ingushetia, was found dead in Chechnya. He was buried on June 1.
