In Boston, the court has started jury selection in the case against Johar Tsarnaev, a native of Chechnya, accused of committing a terror act during the Boston Marathon in April 2013. It has also been reported that defenders of Johar Tsarnaev failed to conclude a plea agreement with officials of the US Attorney General Office.

During the week of December 29, 2014-January 4, 2015, at least six persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, two persons were killed, and four others were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the"Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The Moscow City Court has dismissed a cassation appeal filed by lawyer Andrei Krasnenkov, who earlier represented the interests of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, against the publishing house "Kommersant". The cassation appeal was filed with regard to the publication on the hearing of the case against Oleg Orlov, the former Chairman of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", whom Ramzan Kadyrov accused of libel.

The second person killed in the special operation conducted in the Chechen village of Mekenskaya was identified as Bashir Omarov. According to the republic’s law enforcement bodies, Omarov and one of the leaders of local militants Musa Zavgaev, also killed today in Mekenskaya, were natives of the same village.
