The Nalchik City Court has considered a petition lodged by the Investigatory Committee under the Russian Prosecutor's Office for Kabardino-Balkaria on extending the custody of Kerim Malkarov, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, and upheld it: Malkarov's custody was extended till December 2.

Alexander Polyakov, sports correspondent of the "Chernovik" (Blueprint) newspaper, was beaten in the doorway of the apartment block where he lives in Makhachkala in the afternoon on November 9, at about 4 p.m. According to the victim, when he went up the stairs to his apartment, two unknown persons were coming down; they started beating him with no words. Alexander Polyakov received numerous traumas of his head and has been hospitalized; now his life is out of danger.

Suer Belassain, President of the International Federation of Human Rights, asserts that the current situation with defence of human rights in Georgia is extremely complicated. She told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it in her interview on November 10 in Tbilisi after the FIDH regional seminar "National, Regional and International Legal Remedies for Victims of Human Rights Violations".

Restart of operation of "Abu Bekr" Mosque in Baku will depend on the results of the investigation now conducted by law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan after the armed attack on the Mosque. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that this was stated today at a press conference by Idayat Orudzhev, head of the State Committee for Working with Religious Structures (SCWRS) of Azerbaijan.

People in Chechnya have differently perceived the news that the special battalions "Vostok" (East) and "Zapad" (West) subordinate to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff (GRU) of the Russian Ministry of Defence will be disbanded. Although many residents treated these subdivisions negatively enough, others believe that the battalions were dissolved to please President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.

The total area of the land plots in Sochi bought out for construction of 2014 Olympic objects can be reduced. A group of Deputies from "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) faction has brought in a bill to the State Duma, under which the state can take, till January 1, 2014, the land plots owned by Sochi citizens into restricted use for construction of Olympic objects.
