In Northern Caucasus, slavery was the norm until the beginning of the twentieth century, Olga Shafranova, an ethnographer, has noted.

The author of an offensive comment on the Internet to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has publicly apologized to him, explaining his behaviour by the fact that he was drunk, as it follows from the publication in Chechen Instagram-publics. Some social media users have criticized the young man for insulting Kadyrov; others treated his public scolding as inappropriate.

Residents of Chechnya criticize Ramzan Kadyrov for expensive gifts he makes to famous people, but the head of Chechnya had hardly expected to increase his personal popularity by giving a car to the blogger Khasbulla Magomedov. Kadyrov is indifferent to criticism of his generosity, even on the eve of elections, analysts believe.

A court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Anvar Bolotkhanov to 5.5 years of imprisonment for transferring money to his friend for travelling to Syria. Kamil Eldarov, who provided his bank card for making the money transfer, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Both residents of Chechnya pleaded guilty.

Six prisoners who escaped from the colony in Shamkhal have been sentenced to two years in prison each, which has been added to their basic terms. Three of their accomplices received conditional prison terms.
