Defenders intend to continue their struggle at the national level and at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) for recognition of Zhalaudi Geriev as not guilty.

The defence of Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, accused of drug trafficking, filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Zhalaudi Geriev says that the charge has been fabricated. Earlier, human rights organizations have recognized him as a political prisoner.

Today, Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who is serving his sentence after the pronouncement of the verdict by the Chechen court, is celebrating his 24-year birthday behind bars. The "Caucasian Knot" treats the case against Zhalaudi Geriev as being fabricated and hopes for his release.

Seven months after the verdict pronounced by the Shali District Court against Zhaladi Geriev, the Presidium of the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has agreed with the defence's arguments that Zhaladi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, did not acquire drugs. In fact, the Chechen SC has recognized Zhaladi Geriev as innocent, but still made the ridiculous decision to uphold the verdict of guilty. This was reported by advocate Alaudi Musaev.

A cassation complaint against the court verdicts on the case of Zhalaudi Geriev, a journalist of the "Caucasian Knot", has been sent to the Presidium of the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic. Today, the Investigating Department (ID) for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has cancelled its earlier refusal to open a criminal case against the power agents, who had kidnapped Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, threatened him with death and planted drugs on him, said the advocate Alaudi Musaev.

The recheck of the application of Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, about his kidnapping and use of violence last for a month already instead of 10 days prescribed by the law, said the advocate Alaudi Musaev. Two cassation appeals against the verdict have been also filed by two other advocates involved in the trial.

The defence requests to cancel the verdict pronounced by the Shali District Court and the decision of the judicial board on criminal cases of the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic to leave the sentence without changes.
