On February 24, residents of the Bakhtemir village reported to the police about a man with a gun walking down the street. Law enforcers came to the place and demanded from the man to hand over his gun, but he opened fire on them and was killed by return fire. One policeman was hospitalized with wounds in serious condition. He stays in a coma, investigators report today.

Participants of a march in memory of Boris Nemtsov demanded to release Oyub Titiev, the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny, Rostov activist Anastasia Shevchenko, and all Russian political prisoners. The marchers also called for the investigation into the murders of Natalia Estemirova and Anna Politkovskaya.

The international organization in defence of journalists, "Reporters Without Borders" (RWB) has condemned the verdict rendered in Azerbaijan to Mustafa Gadjibeili, the editor-in-chief of the website "Bastainfo.com". The RWB has called on the international community to impose sanctions on those responsible for such severe measures.

The arrest of Alibek Mirzekhanov in Moscow is a continuation of his persecutions by law enforcers in Dagestan, from where he fled after kidnapping and torture in 2013, Alibek's brother Mansur believes. According to Alibek's advocate, Mirzekhanov is imputed the involvement in the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court.

February 23 marks 75 years since the beginning of the Stalin's deportation of Chechen and Ingush people. However, the memorial day is not officially marked in Chechnya itself. Ruslan Kutaev, the chair of the Assembly of the Peoples of the Caucasus, who publicly spoke in 2014 against the ban on the February mourning events, was sentenced on the falsified charge and sent to prison for almost four years.

Apti Akiev, a native of Chechnya, who is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) in the Omsk Region, is being tortured. Law enforcers are trying to force him to confess to being one of the organizers of riots in the colony, his mother Maret Akieva has stated.
