The law enforcement bodies of St Petersburg know nothing about disappearance in their city of relatives of the human rights activist from Ingushetia Maksharip Aushev, who was shot dead in October. The missing persons are Ali Dzhaniev, a brother of Maksharip's widow, and her uncle - Yusup and Yunus Dobriev. The latter was well-known among St Petersburg Moslems for his humanitarian activity.

Ella Kesaeva, head of the All-Russia Public Organization "Voice of Beslan", moved a proposal at the reporting-election Congress of Human Rights Defenders in Moscow to address the Council of Federation and State Duma with a request to pass a law on the status of terror act victims. The Congress unanimously upheld the offer.

Any act of pardon or amnesty should be welcomed from the viewpoint of humanism; however, the today's President's pardon has not solved the problem of political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The war on corruption in Ingushetia is a failure because of "dishonesty and indecency" of certain judges, President Yunus-Bek Evkurov has stated. As reported by Minister Aram Arutyunyan, the checks conducted by his Ministry of Nature Protection this year have revealed over 700 violations in the spheres of fauna and flora protection, protection and use of water bodies and illegal felling. In 2009, the number of crimes, which can be regarded as terror acts, committed in the south of Russia, went up by almost one third as compared with 2008; thus, during 11 months of this year, 786 such crimes were committed. In 2009, in the Rostov Region, 14 state and municipal officials have been attracted to criminal liability. On December 17, Nikolai Britvin, head of the FSB Department for the Rostov Region, told about it to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to his story, this was the result of implementing a complex of measures aimed to reveal, prevent and stop corruption processes in the bodies of state power and local self-management.
