As stated by local residents, there was no warning about the upcoming flooding in Sochi; rescuers and utilities services failed to reach some localities; and rural residents had to cope with the consequences of the calamity on their own. There are people among them, who have not yet received any compensation for the past floods, which regularly affect the city.

The Russia's Supreme Court has dismissed the appeals against the sentence on Anna Politkovskaya's murder case, but excluded the episode of arms transfer from the verdict and decreased the prison term for the convict Djabrail Makhmudov from 14 years to 13 years and 8 months.

Two residents of Chechnya, who opened fire on law enforcers, have been shot dead in Grozny, said the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Two policemen were wounded. According to the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), the casualties were involved in terror acts.

A march against the increase of electricity tariff began today from Freedom Square in Yerevan. Despite the rain, it was attended by about 1000 people; and some 3000 more gathered in Bagramyan Avenue, Armen Mkrtchyan, a member of the initiative group "No to robbery!", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Today, the Tambov Regional Court has considered the complaints, lodged by Evegeny Vitishko and his advocate against the decision of the Kirsanov District Court, and upheld the latter's refusal to consider the Vitishko's conditional early relief (CER), Andrei Rudomakha, the coordinator of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch), told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
