HRC "Memorial": Chechen power agents take Ingush resident hostage
For more than a week, law enforcers of Chechnya have been keeping Anzor Aliev, a Sunzha resident, demanding from his relatives to give out his brother, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", where the Aliev family appealed for help, has reported.

Movsar Rashidov’s relatives report his kidnapping by power agents
Since January 11, relatives cannot establish the whereabouts of Movsar Rashidov, who had abdicated, in the presence of Ramzan Kadyrov, his son Magomed Rashidov. They suggest that he was kidnapped by power agents.

Iranian Embassy calls on Azeri press not to spoil inter-country relations

Yerevan: three "Sasna Tsrer" supporters sentenced to prison term
Today, the court of general jurisdiction of the Yerevan districts Kentron and Nork-Marash has sentenced Arsen Mkrtumyan, Gagik Mikaelyan and Soso Margaryan to three years in prison each, finding them guilty of using violence against policemen during riots in Yerevan.

Law enforcement source tells about disruption of terror acts in Shali

Officials refuse to pay rent to residents of dilapidated houses in Derbent
On February 1, the Derbent residents, who are protesting against resettlement, met Ibragim Kazibekov, the Minister of Construction and Housing of Dagestan, and Ali Khazbulatov, the permanent representative of the head of the republic in Southern Dagestan. People brought posters to the meeting: "We want no other’s property, but we won’t give away ours!" and "Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin! Stop the construction!"

Freedom House recognizes South Ossetia and Azerbaijan as non-free
On January 31, the Freedom House published a report "Freedom in the World-2017" on the situation of human rights in independent and partially recognized countries, which are treated by rights defenders as "disputed territories". According to the report, no country or disputed territory of the Caucasian region has a relatively high rating to recognize it as a free country.
