Azerbaijani authorities should thoroughly investigate the beating up of the blogger, Mekhman Guseinov, human rights organizations have stated. In its turn, the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has assured that policemen did not participate in beating Guseinov.

The native of Chechnya, who had complained to Ramzan Kadyrov about the unfair prosecution of his compatriots in the Volgograd Region, has posted, after the sentencing, a video message stating that he had appealed to the head of Chechnya "on emotions" and was "misunderstood."

On December 27, law enforcers stopped the picket held by the activist, Mekhman Guseinov, in support of the rapper, Parviz Guluzade; they took him out of the city and beat him up, Mr Guseinov has stated.

Vazha Gaprindashvili, convicted in South Ossetia for violating the border, has been released and returned to Georgia. President Anatoly Bibilov explained his decision by saying that Gaprindashvili had collaborated with investigators and personally asked for pardoning.

Parviz Guluzade, a rap singer, known under the pseudonym Paster, has been arrested in Azerbaijan for 30 days on charges of petty hooliganism and disobedience to the police. The persecution of the rapper has to do with his creativity and political views, oppositional activists have suggested.

The court has sentenced Mustafa Vyshegurov, an activist, to a year and five months in settlement colony after finding him as a participant of clashes with law enforcers during a rally in Magas. Vyshegurov has pled guilty, but noted that the court disregarded his repentance.
