NGOs complain about decline in democracy level in South Caucasus

Death of Rustam Asilderov triggered experts' debate

Rustam Asilderov was one of the oldest members of the North-Caucasian underground, but he had no serious influence on the processes in the region, said the journalist Orkhan Jemal. The death of one of the most authoritative leaders of the "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia, in the Caucasus will result in weakening of the IS' position in the region, believes Denis Sokolov, the head of the RAMCOM Research Centre.

EcoWatch activists and Dozhd journalist released after detention near Gelendzhik

Two activists of the "Ecological Watch for North Caucasus" (EcoWatch) and a journalist of the "Dozhd" (Rain) TV Channel "Rain" were taken to the police station after being kept for five hours by employees of a private security company near the city of Gelendzhik. The activists were released after giving their explanatory notes, the "EcoWatch" activists report.

Blogger, beaten up in Makhachkala, complains about policemen's offences

Alexander Sidorov, a blogger from the city of Tomsk, who held a picket in Makhachkala in defence of homosexual rights, and was beaten up afterwards, has left Dagestan. The blogger told the "Caucasian Knot" that policemen would not take his application about the attack, and insulted him.

At the request of the advocates, the trial on the case of the preparation of the seizure of power in Armenia has been postponed until January 13, 2017.
