Today, on February 26, Azerbaijan commemorates the victims of the Khojaly tragedy. On this day, 27 years ago, during the Karabakh conflict, the town of Khojaly was captured, which led to mass civilian casualties. On the eve of the anniversary of the mournful date, the events dedicated to Khojaly victims were held both in Azerbaijan and abroad.

The dissatisfaction of residents of Chechnya with the ban on official mourning events on the anniversary of deportation became so obvious in eight years that the authorities had to reckon with it, believes Ruslan Kutaev, the head of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations. Dmitry Oreshkin, a political analyst, has added that by making concessions to his people, Ramzan Kadyrov improved his authority, while not making the Kremlin angry.

The four students from Ingushetia detained in Cairo found their custody conditions in prison to be tolerable, but complained about the non-provision of an advocate and an interpreter at the trial, their relatives said. The head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, has called the fifth detainee, whose fate is unknown, to be an alleged recruiter of militants.

On February 24, residents of the Bakhtemir village reported to the police about a man with a gun walking down the street. Law enforcers came to the place and demanded from the man to hand over his gun, but he opened fire on them and was killed by return fire. One policeman was hospitalized with wounds in serious condition. He stays in a coma, investigators report today.

The employees of the international human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) have joined the march in memory of Boris Nemtsov in Moscow demanding the release Oyub Titiev, a Chechen human rights defender. The action also included a collection of signatures in support of Titiev, activists told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
