Activists demand to stop building demolition in Baku (+video)
Starting May 6, local residents organized a round-the-clock watch at a building in central Baku after the owner's attempt to evict the non-commercial movie theatre "Salaam Cinema". The authorities have promised to assess the historical value of the building, built as a Molokan prayer house, and to revise plans for demolition thereof.

Court refuses to release person involved in Politkovskaya's murder
Today, a court in Ryazan has refused to satisfy a petition for the conditional early relief (CER) of Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), convicted of involvement in the murder of the journalist Anna Politkovskaya, the court has reported. The defence will appeal against this judgement.

Georgian villager released in South Ossetia
In South Ossetia, law enforcers handed over Amiran Meladze, a resident of the village of Kveshi, detained on suspicion of violating the border, to the Georgian authorities, the Georgian State Security Service reported on May 7.
