Presidential elections in Nagorno-Karabakh won by Bako Saakyan

Sergey Nasibyan, Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Nagorno-Karabakh, has announced preliminary results of the elections. Out of 92,157 potential voters, a total of 71,285 persons, or 77.36 percent, took part in the election process. Over 4,000 ballot papers have been recognized void.

Bako Saakyan gathered 57,800 votes, or 85.4 percent. 8270 votes, or 12.2 percent, were cast for Masis Mailyan, 856 votes, or 1.26 percent, - for Armen Abgaryan, 539 votes, or 0.8 percent, - for Grant Melkumyan, and - 202 votes, or 0.3 percent, - for Vanik Avanesyan.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them. In the village of Starye Atagi, Urus-Martan District, about 50 members of the Saif-Islam Elmurzaev family, suspected of setting the above car on fire, have been kidnapped; and about 30 people have been kidnapped in the Shali District, the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has reported.
