Ibragim Gaseev, Deputy Defence Minister of South Ossetia, has stated today that last night Georgia used large-calibre weapons to shell, from Dirbi village, the village of Velit, Znaur District of South Ossetia. There were no casualties or victims.

Let us note here that the information about the shelling arrived shortly after the meeting of representatives of Georgia, Russia and South Ossetia held in Ergneti village, located in the territory between Georgian and South-Ossetian block posts, made a decision to start a round-the-clock telephone "hot line" to ensure prompt assessment of what happens in the conflict zone.

"About one o'clock at night, from the Georgian village of Dirbi, along the border with South Ossetia, a Turkish-made 'Cobra' car started moving, trying to get into the territory of South Ossetia, and then, it shelled Velit village," said Mr Gaseev and added that the Ossetian party did not give in to the provocation.

According to the Deputy Minister, shelling from the Georgian party happens repeatedly, and the South-Ossetian party "will take adequate measures," as the "Interfax" reports.
